A Fund to Help AIDS: Chinese Christians initiate the fund to help AIDS patients

A fund to help AIDS patients and care the medical staff who are fighting against AIDS was established by the Shanghai Charity Foundation on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day.

Shanghai Charity Foundation says until the afternoon of that day, the fund had collected supplies and art works by some artists worth than 3 million yuan and 500,000 yuan (78,160 dollars) was donated by Christians in that evening.

Bian Bingbin, shares that the fund is just a beginning and he hopes to make it a goal in which Christians walk into the society. "Christians will do greater things, walk the way as Jesus did and unite more Christians to live the model of love in families and communities." He says.

Shanghai writer, Bian Bingbin, one of the initiators of the fund, is a Christian since young. After diagnosed with thyroid cancer five years ago, he is devoted to caring the AIDS patients.

He told Gospel Times a story of an AIDS patient. When he was doing the charity work of Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center and Shanghai Charity Foundation, an issue still stayed in his heart. When he visited a patient suffering from AIDS who just graduated from university and was about 23 years old in a hospital, the patient begged Bian to save him urgently. After some time, when Bian returned to the hospital, he found the patient had left there. Later his family told Bian that their son commit suicide the day he returned home.

National Health and Family Planning Commission of PRC states that the infected alive people and AIDS patients have reached 575,000 and there have been 177,000 deaths in China until the end of Oct. 2015. Cui Li, the associate director of the institute stresses that young people are the key group the AIDS prevention and anti-AIDS work for in China. In recent years, it reports 2662 infected students and patients from Jan to Oct, 2015, which rises 27.8% compared to the same period of last year.

Knowing this, Bian thinks he should take the responsibility for this as a Christian, salt and light in the society. Bian says, however, the fact is that there are rare Christians in the field of charity foundations and Christian elites. Some Christians seek personal interests out of wrong faith motives while most Christians focus on reading the Bible and praying but not integrating themselves into the society actively.

So he begins to care and love AIDS patients and help them understand their problems and find the hope of life.

"Today the society needs Christian to stand out 'burning' themselves, which testifies that Christianity can bring fairness and justice to the society." Says Bian. Moreover, he thinks what AIDS patients need is not only money, but also love and hope: "AIDS tortures them also causes discrimination. Christians should give love when seeing this."
