Waiting fans of Pokemon Go in China and other similar games would be disappointed to hear that the hit augmented reality game and similar platforms would not be made available in China anytime soon as the state censor said that they will not license the game until all potential security risks are evaluated.

According to an industry body,  the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television is currently coordinating with other government departments to evaluate the game's risks and prompted by "a high level of responsibility to national security and the safety of people's lives and prosperity."

According to the China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association's games panel website post which was cited by Reuters, the risks include "threat to geographical information security and the threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers."

Aside from Pokemon Go, some Chinese-made AR and location-based services and games are also in consideration. According to the China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association, they had to seek the advice of the State censor regarding these games. Pokemon Go also uses Google services such as Google Maps, which is currently blocked in China.
