On Wednesday, Chinese author Yan Lianke and his translator Carlos Rojas has been included in the shortlist for the coveted Man Booker International Prize 2017 Longlist for the book The Explosion Chronicles.

This is the third time the Chinese author has been shortlisted for the same award. The first time was in 2013 for the book Lenin's Kisses in 2013 and The Four Books in 2016.

In the Chronicles, it talks about a story of a village which transformed into a megacity within a span of 30 years and depicted it in an exaggerated sort of way. According to the review of The New York Times, they said that the book describes progress "In magic-realist fashion, the moral chaos is horrifyingly reflected in the dysfunction of nature."

The US edition of The Explosion Chronicles was released by Grove Press in October 2016, and its UK edition was published by Penguin Press just this March.

The Man Booker International Prize celebrates the finest works of translated fiction from around the world. It is awarded every year for a single book, which is translated into English and published in the UK. Translators of the book will also be recognized with the £50,000 (around $61,750) prize divided between the author and the translator of the winning book. In addition, each shortlisted author and translator will receive £1,000 each.
