Why Do We Pray?

Prayer: A woman makes a deep down prayer.

Aside from the word "Faith" there is another strong word the we Christians sometimes overlook.

We tend to forget the most important thing to start our day only remembering it when we are in a deep situation: a loved one who is fighting for his life, a late night bus ride home, from a strange neighborhood, a failed exam-a broken heart, etc.

Prayer

From pros = toward, facing, before [emphasizing the direct approach of the one who prays in seeking God's face] + euchomai = originally to speak out, utter aloud, express a wish, then to pray or to vow.

/prer/

noun

noun: prayer; plural noun: prayers

a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship.

Why do we need prayer in our life?  What importance does one single word hold in our life?

Well, one thing is for sure, it is God's commandment.

According to the Bible, Matthew 7:7-8 King James Version (KJV) says

(v7) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

(8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

The words ask and given, clearly states that for us to be able to obtain what we aim in our life - be it the course we would like to take, the job we want to get, the grade in Calculus or that special person that you are praying for; the Bible states that ask and it shall be given- of course, if it is God's will.

So, why is prayer important?

It's not just merely words that counts when you pray, it's the sincerity behind those words.  You see, the Lord looks in the heart of a person. He doesn't care how bad you've been or what your background is, but if what you are praying for is His will, then by all means, it will be granted.

There are conditions when it comes to praying, and as servants of the Lord, we should be mindful on what those conditions are.  It's not through good works that would help you get what you're praying for.  There are times when the people we least expect to pray sometimes gets what they are praying for in a short amount of time.

Prayer is important because through prayer, we give glory back to the Lord.

We are glorifying His name, lifting our hands up high and showing openness of our hearts.  The Lord wants us to ask Him for things we want because He is our Heavenly Father. Who else would want to give us what we need, but Jesus?

That is why praying is important. By praying, we give Him back the Honor and the Glory that He is worthy of.  We humble ourselves by prayer, showing how small we are and how big our God is.

By prayer, we surrender all our fears to Him.  We let Him take the pain, take the burden and the heaviness of our hearts.

Prayer is important because it is our way of communicating our God, our savior.

It's like a two-way communication: we speak, He listens and most of the time, God speaks too. Though prayers, He speaks in a small voice.
