China's Communist Party newspaper, the People's Daily has reportedly criticized, on September 18, the United States for demanding that Beijing should put more pressure on North Korea.

"Beijing will never accept the responsibility being imposed by the United States," People's Daily said.

It has been known that China accounts for about 90 percent of North Korea's trade. The People's Daily also said that sanctions must not interfere with legal trade between North Korea and the outside world or even harm everyday people, adding that "sanctions are not a tool for stifling the regime."

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told the reporters that "some related parties" - a reference to North Korea and United States- "keep sending threatening messages both in deeds and words that include warning of military action."

"These kinds of actions don't help solve the problem but further complicate the situation," he said.

Meanwhile, Germany's foreign ministry Sigmar Gabriel is calling for direct talks with North Korea over its missile and nuclear programs.

He said that the world should wait for sanctions to bite, but "visions and courageous steps" are highly needed.

He also pointed out that "a security guarantee other than the nuclear bomb" is needed for North Korea. He further added that United States, China and Russia should participate on the direct negotiations with North Korea.
