Anita Board, an eight-year-old junior drag car driver, died after crashing her junior drag racing car on a track in Western Australia.

The junior drag driver was on a solo "test run" when her vehicle hit a concrete barrier at the Perth Motorplex, the police said.

Paramedics immediately treated her at the scene on Saturday before taking her to hospital, where she died a day later.

According to the Australia National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA), the girl had been attempting to gain her license for junior dragster racing.

Anita had just turned eight - the minimum age that required to race under official rules - and was driving a 210cc dragster, local media reported.

The father of the girl, Ian Board, posted a message online saying "my heart [is] in a million pieces".

"We will need ... the love and support in the days weeks months ahead," he wrote in local community forum.

On the other hand, members of the drag racing community have posted tributes online, including under the hashtag #HelmetsOutForAnita.

Andra said in a statement: "Anita was undergoing a licensing pass at the Perth Motorplex, as part of the process for her to receive her racing license, when this tragic accident happened.

"Junior racers must adhere to stringent safety rules and regulations regarding safety equipment, and their dragsters must meet specific safety requirements. ANDRA regulations for junior competition are benchmarked against similar organizations internationally."

Meanwhile, Mike Sprlyan of Junior Dragster Australia, told news outlet Perth Now that beginners aged between eight and 17 reached top speeds of about 40-50km/h (25-30mph).

On the other hand, a statement from the police says that said they would prepare a report for a coroner.

After the death of the eight-year old, a post from ANDRA's website has been posted expressing their grief towards the accident.

"The Australian National Drag Racing Association is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Junior Dragster competitor Anita Board following an on track incident during an event held at the Perth Motorplex on the 11th of November.

Everyone at the Australian National Drag Racing Association extends its sincere and deepest condolences to Anita's family, friends and the wider drag racing community at this tragic time.

ANDRA will continue to work with VenuesWest and continue to assist police with their investigations while supporting Anita's family, and ask that the privacy of the family is respected at this tragic time."
