On Wednesday, a state-run newspaper in Jilin, Northeastern China published a very unique page which illustrates how readers could protect themselves from a possible nuclear weapons attack or explosion.

China has long opposed North Korea's nuclear and missile program and called for both the US and South Korea to stop provoking North Korea with their actions. They also call for the end of the war of words between the US and North Korea.

Just this Wednesday, US bombers flew over the Korean peninsula as part of its joint military exercises with South Korea. North Korea has commented against these drills and said it will only bring the Korean Peninsula back to war.

The article published in Jilin Daily did not indicate when a possible attack by North Korea would occur or if other countries will do so, however, it does explain how nuclear weapons work and how people could survive if an attack occurs.

The article explains that nuclear weapons can destroy a place in five ways: light radiation, blast waves, early-stage nuclear radiation, nuclear electro-magnetic pulses and radioactive pollution. The first four alone can kill in an instant.

For those who are outside their homes when a nuclear attack occurs, it is ideal to lie in a ditch and cover their exposed skin with light colored clothing. They can also dive into a river or lake to reduce the possibility of getting killed immediately.

Several illustrations were also in the article to show how radioactive contamination can be removed. First aid techniques are also included for families to do should in case they get radiated.

According to the Global Times' commentary, the article can be considered as a public service announcement now that the situation in North Korea is getting worst.

It also said, "If war breaks out, it is not possible to rule out the Korean peninsula producing nuclear contaminants, and countermeasures must be seriously researched and spoken openly about to let the common folk know. But at the same time, there is absolutely no reason to be alarmed."

Last week, North Korea launched its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile which can target anywhere in the US. US President Donald Trump immediately warned North Korea that he will destroy the hermit kingdom if they continue to threaten the US with nuclear weapons.
