According to Chinese authorities, they have shut down an institute that was teaching women to be obedient and subordinate to men.

The government's education bureau said the institute claims it teaches "traditional virtues"; however, it is believed that the institute had violated socialist core values.

In an online video, the subject of the lecturers was shown to be speaking out against gender equality, while other videos show that they are advising their female students not fight back when being beaten.

It is now believed that it is not the only institute that caters the same teachings in China. In recent years, there has been a rise to the number of similar to the institute's teaching.

The viral video, posted online by news website Pear Video, clearly shows teachers at the Fushun School of Traditional Culture telling women they should not attempt to have a career but "just stay at the bottom level".

To add to that, the teachings at the institute urges women to unconditionally obey their fathers, husbands and sons. Other "advice" from the controversial school included never arguing when scolded and never divorcing.

The teachers are also seen warning that if a woman has sex with more than three men, the semen becomes poisonous and might kill her.

"Whatever your husband asks, your reply should be: 'Yes. Right away'" one lecturer tells her students.

The video showed women doing domestic housework, such as cleaning the floor and cleaning toilets using their bare hands.

According to the Global Times newspaper, several employees of the institute, which reportedly opened in 2011, have protested against its closure, telling the paper that the controversial video was a misrepresentation of their work to promote traditional culture.

Furthermore, a post on the Weibo account of the local education bureau in Fushun said "the institute's teachings went against social morality and must be closed immediately".

Authorities have also pressed they will have a more thorough checking to find similar institutes.

"We must stop any phenomenon that violates the socialist core value," the statement says.

Female empowerment has been growing worldwide, standing up for what is "right" and not being silenced by the opposite sex. However, progress remains slow as some countries do not wish to change its policies regarding women.
