On Monday, Apple confirms the report that it will be purchasing UK-based music identification app Shazam after reaching a deal with the company.

While no details regarding the full price of the deal was released, tech news site TechCrunch reported on Friday that it may amount to as much as $400 million, short by around $600 million as the company has been recently valuated at $1 billion.

According to Apple, Shazam would fit perfectly with Apple Music and help users discover new music. Currently, Apple Music has 27 million users and competes with Spotify's 60 million users. Once the deal is finished, Shazam's team will be relocated in Cupertino and join the team.

In a statement, Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said that Shazam "is used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, across multiple platforms... We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today's agreement."

No plans have been released regarding Apple's plans, but they will not be changing Shazam's service until they get regulatory approval.

Currently, Shazam is available for Android devices, but it is now uncertain if Apple will keep the Android version once the deal is finalized. Last year, Shazam stopped its service for Windows.
