China is building a massive floating solar farm over an old coal mine.

China Three Gorges Corporation is already half done with the construction of China's next great renewable energy wonder. The project is reported to be completed on May 2018.

When this 1 billion yuan project will be completed, the solar panels in Anhui province will have an installed capacity of 150 megawatts and can power about 94,000 homes.

The said power plant will now become the world's biggest floating solar farm, nabbing that title away from the nearby farm which was built over a disused coal mine and made headline earlier this year.

According to experts, the solar panels improve the traditional solar farms as the water cools down the panels , making them run more efficiently. Meanwhile, these solar panels won't need to take so much land space.

China is known to be the world's largest energy consumer as it runs mostly on dirty fossil fuel and coal. Just this winter, millions of homes in Northern China were being banned from burning coal because it leads to severe natural gas shortages, freezing families and policy reversal.
