On September 8, 2019, Hongkou District Christian Council & Three-Self Patriotic Movement (CC&TSPM) of Shanghai held a symposium to mark the 40th reopening anniversary of Shanghai Young Allen Memorial Church or Jingling Church.

According to Shanghai Christianity, Rev. Zhuo Zhuyi, chairman of Hongkou District TSPM, said that the number of registered Christians in the district had skyrocketed from more than 300 to about 14,000 since the reopening of the Methodist church.

Rev. Zhang Aili, general secretary of Shanghai CC&TSPM, addressed the audience saying that Christianity in Shanghai had an important position in the Chinese church. She expected the church in Hongkou District to keep working in sinicization (or sinofication) and thanked it for the donations from the congregation of Allen Memorial Church given to East China Theological College and for theological education.
