On January 31, 2018, British Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband arrived in the central city of Wuhan, starting her three-day visit to China.

The visit marks her first trip to China since being named prime minister in July 2016.

The PM's official spokesperson said that the visit "will intensify the golden era in UK-China relations."

She leads the largest business delegation since she became PM, consisting of 50 leaders covering finance, trade, medicine, education, communication, and transportation, according to the UK-based Sky News.

Members represent companies, universities, and industry associations such as HSBC, British Petroleum, Inmarsat, Standard Chartered, Aston Martin, Sirius Minerals, AstraZeneca and the University of Manchester.

Theresa May announced new education links with China on the first day of her trip, according to the BBC news reported on Jan. 31.

The education deal, worth than £500 million, includes the extension of a Math teacher exchange program and a campaign to let about 200 English teachers teach English in China. It will create 800 jobs in the UK.

The two countries will join hands to train pre-school staff and better share information on vocational training.

In addition, UK will launch an "English is Great" program to promote English learning in China.

May said that the new deal would enable the most children and teenagers ever to exchange ideas between the two countries so that "the golden era" in UK-China partnership could be passed down to the next generation.
