According to the Amity Foundation, Qiu Zhonghui, chair of the board of Amity, was elected as one of the governing board members at the third general assembly of the ACT Alliance held in Uppsala, Sweden. Last year he was also a member of the governing board.

Founded by 150 members from over 120 countries and regions, ACT Alliance works to help poor and marginalized people.

More than 360 representatives from across the globe attended the conference held from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1.  Representatives included Ms. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations; Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women; Isabella Lovin, deputy prime minister of Sweden; Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and general secretary of Lutheran World Federation (LWF); and, Cornelia Fullkrüg-Weitze, president of Bread for the World.

The assembly conducted several pieces of business. They elected members to the governing board, the officers and the membership and nominations committee; approved a revised global strategy (2019-2016) and implementation plan; and, set forth a new engagement model for ACT membership, to name a few.

On Nov. 1, 2018, the ACT Alliance and the WCC co-held a forum on religion and sustainable development.

Ms Amina Mohamme said that faith-based social organizations play a key part in realizing the 2030 sustainable development roles because both organizations share the same goal that ensures that "no one is left behind".
