On Nov 9, the book launch of Blue Book of Voluntary Service: Annual Report on Development of Voluntary Service in China (2017) was held in Beijing.

According to the official website for the China Volunteer Service Federation, about 200 people attended the event, including the hosting party, representatives from volunteer organizations, and members of the media from across the country.

It took more than 40 experts and scholars in the field of volunteer service over 15 months to complete the Blue Book, which has nearly 300,000 words with five sections: main report, features, practices, references, and appendices. It offers an industry-wide multi-field and multi-dimensional analysis on the development of volunteer services in China. It is also the first industry report on volunteer services in China.

Another Book, Neighborhood Watchman in China, was also released.

Initiated in November 2016, Neighborhood watchman took about 20 experts over 11 months to finish. It includes three sections: theory exploration, research report, and practical cases. Through many vivid examples and systematic theory interpretation, it deepens knowledge of the Neighborhood Watchman volunteer services and studies and explores the regular and systematic path of such service in order to promote it in different places, build a mutual social governance pattern, and increase the sense of gain, happiness, and security of the people.

At the conference, Wu Yuqin, an 86-year-old lady from Shitou Community, Dazhalan Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, told the story of how she received help from the Neighborhood Watchman volunteers all year long.
