German President Joachim Gauck Attends Church Service in Xi'an on His First Visit to China

On March 23, German president Joachim Gauck attended an Easter Day service in Jing Xin Church, Xi'an. CCD contacts the preacher Wang of the church who testifies the news. 

Besides, the president paid another visit to a mosque in the city to know the history of China and the integration of ethnic minorities and civilizations, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.

Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt had a five-day state visit in China upon the invitation of Xi Jinping from March 20. The president visited the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum and addressed a speech in Tongji University. He also travelled to Beijing and Xi'an.

Gauck is the first former-pastor president in German history, as it is quoted in Caixin.com. He studied theology in college and after graduation ordained as a Lutheran pastor serving the youth. Gauck was prominent in the civil rights activities during the Peaceful Revolution of 1989. In March, 2012, he was elected as the German president with a landslide.
