On January 8, 2018, the 2018 National Conference of Religious Directors was held in Beijing, reviewing the performance in 2017 and planning the work for the new year.

Wang Zuoan, director of State Administration for Religious Affairs (SARA), listed the focus for 2018 religious work in a report, according to the official website of SARA.

He said that the work should follow the guiding principles from the 19th CPC National Congress and the national conference on religious work convened in April 2016 and focus on the implementation of the revised regulations on religious affairs. It would be committed to the underlying principle of making progress while keeping performance stable, the sinicization of religions, improving the rule of law in its work, solving glaring religious problems, maintaining normal religious order, the internal construction of the religious community, and the unity of religious people and congregations.
