China has been making progress with its poverty-relief battle with President Xi Jinping in charge. According to the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, they have reviewed plan last month regarding the country's continued efforts in poverty alleviation.

The meeting, presided by Xi Jinping, stressed that the battle against poverty is one of the three though battles that China must win to build a progressive society by 2020. To achieve this goal, China needs to lift around 30 million poor rural residents out of poverty in the next three years.

"We must be aware of the difficulties and challenges in winning the battle, and must have a stronger sense of responsibility and urgency in poverty relief," said a statement released after the meeting.

It can be recalled that Xi Jinping's top agenda is poverty relief. In his own words, he said," On the march towards common prosperity, no one must be left behind."

In February this year, Xi Jinping attended a symposium on poverty alleviation and said that decisive progress has been made as China is making unprecedented efforts.

He also attributed the success to the CPC's leadership, strong financial support, targeted strategies and strict requirements for poverty elimination works.

According to statistics, there are over 68 million people that have been lifted over the poverty line in the past five years in China. By the end of 2017, China had 30.46 million poor citizens. China aims to eradicate poverty by the year 2020 with roughly 10 million each year.

There are about 3.4 million citizens who moved into their new homes since 2012 and more than 6 million poor population have also been renovated. China's poverty rate has dropped from 10.2 percent in 2012 to 3.1 percent in 2017, becoming the first country to complete the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
