As the novel coronavirus broke out in mid-January, the elderly have been listed as one of the high risk groups.

To ensure the safety of its senior residents, Shanghai En'guang Senior Citizens' Home, founded by the Shanghai Christian Council & Municipal Three -Self Association (CC&MTSA),  has been in lockdown since January 26, prohibiting any visiting friends or relatives.

Seated beside the Gospel Church in Minhang District, the nursing home, visited by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby last April, is integrated with senior care, nursing and medical care, rehabilitation, culture and recreation, spiritual consolation, and hospice care, according to the WeChat account of Shanghai Christianity.

Apart from daily normal care and disinfection, the organization measures their temperature every morning and afternoon.

The staff remind them of washing hands more frequently, drinking more water, and wearing masks to protect themselves.

Meanwhile, all the Christian gatherings have been suspended in accordance with the deployment of Shanghai CC&MTSA.

Instead, audio sermons are broadcasting inside the home to strengthen the faith of the elderly Christians.

During this special period, the residents explore different ways to divert themselves from boredom. Some of them read books or the Bible, play harmonica, or surf the Internet. A few who are homesick talk with their family members through video calls with the assistance of the staff. In addition, the workers voluntarily offer haircuts to the seniors.
