On Jan 3, 2017, Pastor Moses Zhang passed away at the ripe old age of 93. (See the Full report Here: Moses Zhang, the Last Warrior of Chinese Back to Jerusalem Evangelistic Band, Dies at 93 .)
At age 17 Pastor Moses was saved and called to the ministry. He attended the North-East Bible College. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, the last warrior of Spread the Gospel Evangelism Team.
Pastor Moses believed and taught the word of God to the multitudes. Most importantly he taught his sons and daughters by being a Godly example to them.
His wife was also a strong Christian woman who stood by Pastor Moses through the good time and bad times.
Xi-Guan Cao, the grandson of Pastor Moses notified the Christian Times, a Christian online Newspaper in Mainland China, of the memorial services which would be held on Jan 8, in the afternoon and Jan 9, 2017 the next morning.
The Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic movement of the Protestant Churches, plus the Christian Council, as well as 3 elders and others held the memorial service. There were many beautiful hymns sung, and prayers voiced, of farewell to a mighty man of God.
Xi-Guan Cao, grandson of Pastor Moses Zhang, said that his grandfather greatly impacted his life, taught him in no circumstance to “never give up.” His grandfather inspired him by being a true example. Every day he walked his Christian life. His grandfather left him a legacy of spiritual wealth.
Pastor Moses Zhang taught the younger pastors what he had learned over the years.
In other words he passed on his legacy of an unrelenting faithfulness to God.
The older generation of Pastors in Henan Province, Gongyi and other cities endured great, trials and hardships. The 3 elders from the government churches encouraged the younger generation to work hard and to stand firm on Bible truths.
At both memorial services, all of them were reminiscent of the life Pastor Moses lived every day in his efforts to spread the gospel.
From 3 pm to 7:30 pm, despite zero temperatures, everyone wanted to stay and give honor to this extraordinary man.
On Jan 9, 2017, they carried his body to the graveside. It was a perilous uphill journey. Because of many days of heavy rain, it was hard for people to climb up the steep hill to the graveside. It’s difficult even for young grandson Cao who sprained his ankle.
Many older church members, who loved and cherished him so much, were determined to make it up the hill, by using their hands and knees to keep their balance.
As church members gathered around the coffin and sang beautiful hymns, many cried out with loud voices, in appreciation and thanksgiving, for a “Job” on earth well done.
Pastor Moses Zhang faced many challenges throughout the years financially, spiritually etc. His greatest desire was to build a church which was realized at age 85. His relatives and church members established the church located in Henan Province, Gongyi City, Lokou town.
“Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant.”
