Music Professor to Launch Free Course on History of Church Music

Pastor Zhu Guijin announced that he will offer to teach a free course in the History of Church Music, sharing God's work in the history of church music.

People can register for the course which is to be given at 8:00 every Wednesday evening starting from March 10, according to the official WeChat account “Guijin Sacred Music”.

Pastor Zhu, who has Master of Theology (M. Th) from Trinity Theological College in Singapore, and a voice performance degree from Trinity College of London, has taught in East China Theological College for 25 years. As a member of the Shanghai Musicians Association, he has given more than a hundred lectures in churches across China. Offering a free course is his long-term wish, as church music has a long history, rich content and in his view, Christianity is the religion of music.

The purpose of this course is to provide the historical basis of sacred music as a service in the church, and reliable reference to grasp the future direction of sacred church music.

To be broadcast by recorded video, the courses includes 12 chapters, such as Ancient Greek and Roman Music, Hebrew Music, Catholic Liturgical Music and Orthodox Church Music. The pastor will also introduce different periods of church music, including the early church, Medieval Church, Renaissance Church and the churches in the Reformation era, the Baroque Period and the 19th, 20th, 21st Century.

In 2020, Pastor Zhu launched a series of free online courses on Worship Etiquette and Sacred Music on his official WeChat account. Divided into 20 chapters, the course covered many topics, such as Worship in Sacred TimeWorship in Sacred Space, and Sacred and Popular Music.
