Chengbei Church in Changsha, Hunan, carried out repair work for its roof, exterior walls and main body, aiming to ensure the safe and orderly organization of in-person worship activities.

According to its official WeChat account, the church’s roof leakage was very serious, due to the aging of the roof structure and the influence of years of wind, snow and rain. There were many hidden dangers of structural insecurity, so the purlin structure was also in urgent need of reinforcement. After in-person surveys by ancient construction experts, the church, with the support of relevant local departments, initiated the renovation of the main body, the roof and exterior walls. At present, the work is proceeding in an orderly manner.

As a fusion of Chinese and Western architectural culture, the church is the largest one in Hunan Province and a provincial cultural relics protection unit. In 1902, the London Missionary Society purchased land and built the church. In 1917, the Presbyterian Church of North American constructed a new sanctuary on the original site, followed by the rebuilding in 1930. With a capacity of 700 believers, the church has a floor area of 467.68 square meters (0.115 acres), and a total construction area of 1002.40 square meters (0.246 acres).
