To promote the traditional virtues of “filial piety, love, and respect for the elderly”, a centennial church in China’s southern coastal Guangdong Province held a Sunday service especially for the senior.

Though this year’s Senior’s Day in China falls on October 4 (September 9 on the lunar calendar), Guangxiao Church in Guangzhou hosted activities ahead to honor its aged members the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival which took place on Sep 10 this year, said the church.

In addition to sending blessings to the elderly over 70 years old, the church presented gifts to the aged who were still serving in the choir, bookbinding, and cleaning groups, taking family photos for them to record precious memories.

On that Sunday, Rev. Zhang Chengtao and Rev. Liu Chenmingzi delivered sermons titled "Love is Here" and "Sweet Relationship", wishing the elderly good health, a harmonious family, and healthy spiritual life. The senior members were encouraged to bear witness for Jesus in their families and communities with their strength equaling their days.
