The newest American adventure film 'Tomb Raider' has been well-received by the Chinese moviegoers as film database Maoyan reports that it has gotten 261 million yuan on its first week in the Chinese box office.

The film, released on Friday, led the box office sales and the remaining movies in the list. In total, for the week of March 12 to 18, Maoyan reports that the Chinese box office raked 966 million yuan.

The newest rendition to 'Tomb Raider' features Alicia Vikander, playing explorer and adventurer Lara Croft who is looking for her father in an island where he was last seen.

What brings this movie famous in China is the appearance of Chinese-American film actor Daniel Wu as a supporting character to Vikander's role in the movie.
