World-renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne will be bringing his world famous stage productions in China as his production of 'Cinderella' is scheduled to debut in Beijing this coming August.

The stage production will be held at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Beijing and will begin on August 7. The last show will be on August 12.

This is not the first time Bourne brought his stage productions in China because in 2016, his show 'Sleeping Beauty' also made its debut in Beijing's Tianqiao Performing Arts Center.

The stage production for Cinderella was conceptualized in 1997 after Bourne successfully finished his production of 'Swan Lake'. In an interview, he remarked he wanted his Cinderella to be unique but still retain its main story. For the stage production, Bourne's Cinderella lives at the time of the Second World War, during the London Blitz.

He said, "People going missing, new love found, people falling in love very quickly and people never knowing what the future might be, the theme worked very well with the story."

Bourne also remarked that he selected World War II as the setting of his Cinderella story because of the fact Sergei Prokofiev wrote the music for the original stage production during the 1940s. He remarks he regularly listens to Prokofiev's music and there, inspired him to design his Cinderella production.
