This week, Chinese film studios Usunhome Pictures and Youth Film Studio announced that they will be creating a movie featuring the story of Chinese Princess Wen Cheng, who trekked 3,000 kilometers to marry the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo 1,400 years ago.

The announcement was made during an event for the 8th Beijing International Film Festival and the two groups announced that they will be investing up to 200 million yuan to recreate the epic romance into film.

The film will be entitled as 'Mission Unpredictable', and it will be looking into the epic romance through the eyes of a low-ranked warrior who travelled with the princess.

Directing the film is Chinese award-winning director Jin Tiemu, who is well-known for his direction of the top 2006 documentary 'The Old Summer Palace'. It is expected that the movie will be released nationwide in 2020.

Aside from 'Mission Unpredictable', Usunhome also revealed that they are working on two other productions, the franchise series 'The Realm' and the variety show 'The Tibet Code', which is based from Chinese author He Ma's best-selling novel of the same title. 'The Realm' will be focusing on an explorer's adventure as he studies Tibet's "sky burials". It is expected that 'The Realm' will also be made into a TV series, video game and other related merchandise.
