In Proverbs 4:23, it says "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

"Guard your heart."

It is a popular phrase among Christians but what does this mean? What is expected from us and to what extent should we guard our hearts?

Guarding our hearts means remaining to be faithful to what is asked of us as Christians. Society's expectations are different than God's expectations and it is important to remain mindful of these differences. It does not mean that we need to be conscious of our actions and ignore the call to obedience. It means we need to answer "yes" to God's will. And we need to say "no" to sin and worldly desires. It is simply putting our relationship with the Lord, first above all other things.

As we begin guarding our hearts, we need to remember the motives behind our actions. If we truly love God as we say we do, we must obey Him. He asked us to open our hearts to His Will and guard it from other things that do not come from Him.
