Disabled Elderly in China to Reach 42 Million by 2020, Development of Pension Services Urgently Needed

A public data on released recently that the number of disabled elderly in China will reach 42 million 4 years later in 2020 and that of seniors aged over 80 will reach 29 million.

According to Xinhua News Agency, on Oct 26th state officer pointed out that China's current aging process is increasingly worsening at the 2016 (the first session) Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Pension Forum. With this process, the number of key populations who receive pension services and are disabled, senile, empty-nest, solitary will increase significantly.

It is estimated that the number of disabled elderly will continue to grow to 42 million by 2020, 61.68 million by 2030, 97.5 million by 2050; and the number of elderly aged over 80 will increase to 29 million by 2020, 43 million by 2030, 0.108 billion by 2050; and the number of empty-nest elderly will continue to increase to 0.118 billion by 2020, 0.18 billion by 2030 and 0.262 billion by 2050.

" For the undertaking of social pension services and the pension industry in China, this development trend is both the basic power forcing the development of pension-services undertaking and the biggest opportunity for promoting the development of pension services industry", said Li Zhihong.
