Fewer Chinese Tourists Come To Korea's Jeju Island Due to THAAD?

Korea's Jeju Island is known to be one of the famous destination of Chinese tourists before and during China's lunar New Year. However, it is not the same case for this year.

According to a report by Chosun, some 42, 880 tourists coming from China are expected during the holiday from January 27 up to February 2 but it is lesser compared to the numbers from last year.

JeJu special Self-Governing Provincial Tourism Association said on Thursday that the numbers decreased due to lesser package tours provided by Beijing airlines and is possible after Seoul decided to station a U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense.

"Beijing rejected Korean airlines' applications for six new routes, including between, in January and February," said the rep from the association. "Only 10 to 15 percent of charter buses are on the road as a result of dwindling group tourists from China."
