Google recently updated and introduced its new user policy on Friday, May 25 in advance of the new and stricter European data privacy law which came into effect the same day too.

The content of the policy did not change much but Google used simpler language and navigation of the document. It has even introduced illustrations and videos in order to make the policy more clear than ever before exactly how it stores and collects user data, as well as how to access and delete it.

"Although we're taking these steps to make our Privacy Policy easier to understand, it's important to note that nothing is changing about your current settings or how your information is processed," said William Malcolm, Google's Director for privacy and legal in Europe, in a blog post explaining the policy update.

Malcolm also said that the company will also email all the account holders in order to explain the policy update.

The update allows users to check their privacy settings from within the policy, to comply with the new European law. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is designed to give the European citizens more control over their data. This new law applies to every company that operates online in Europe.

Apple and Facebook have already said that they will introduce new updates on their website in line with European law.

GDPR is one of the biggest online privacy overhauls the web has even seen. Though it is designed to give more protection to European users, it also applies to all users from around the world who uses internet.
