New cases of African swine fever has been reported in China on Tuesday as the agriculture ministry said that two cases have been confirmed in the central province of Hunan.

The confirmation of the new cases in Yiyang and Changde is expected to alleviate the worries regarding the region's pork supply after two new cases were reported in southwest Yunnan.

The ministry reports that 546 hogs in a pig farm in Yiyang and 268 hogs in Changde had been culled after it was verified that they were infected with the fever.

African swine flu has first been reported in China since August 2018 when it was first spotted in Liaoning. Currently, the virus remains difficult to cure and there is no vaccine so far to prevent it. More than 38,000 hogs have already been culled in China since September and transportation of live pigs and pig products have been banned temporarily across the country to prevent further outbreak.
