On Monday, Xinhua reports that China is now strengthening its ban on solid waste imports as part of the country's campaign against pollution as it has already increased measures to stop scrap imports this year.

According to the report, which cited a government document released late on Sunday, 32 types of solid waste imports would be banned from December 31, including hardware, auto parts, wood, stainless steel, scraps and ships.

Since the crackdown on waste imports early this year, scrap imports have reduced greatly and smugglers have been stopped. The country had also stopped importation of scrap metal, plastic and paper as part of its efforts to stop foreign garbage from entering the country.

Last year, China had released a list of solid waste imports that are banned and vowed to reduce the banned list up to 18 types by the end of 2019. In 2017, at least 66 different types of waste imports were in the banned list.
