Song Joong Ki Gives Scented Candles With Handwritten Letters To 500 Staff Of 'Battleship Island'

"Battleship Island" actor Song Joong Ki reportedly gave a heartwarming gift to each of the staff of the upcoming movie.

The actor is estimated to have spent 25 million won ($21,000) for the scented candles he gave to each of the staff. Moreover, the gift came in with a handwritten message for each of the crew.

On Friday, December 23, some of the "Battleship Island" staff revealed the famous actor have candles, which is worth about 50,000 won each as his way of expressing his gratitude to the staff for their hardwork. It is his way of expressing his gratitude to the film's workers for sharing the joy and sorrows of making the movie, Soompi reported.

"Song Joong Ki gave the candles to the staff individually with a handwritten message for each person. Everyone was very touched by Song Joong Ki's warm heart," a source said.

According to its official synopsis, "Battleship Island" tells the story of 400 Joseon people who risk their lives to escape forced labour on Hashima Island during the Japanese colonial era. Song Joong Ki will play independence fighter Park Moo Young, who infiltrates the island in order to rescue important figures of the independence movement against imperial Japan.

The film is directed by Ryu Seung Wan and it also star Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, and Lee Jung Hyun. It is slated for release in the first half of 2017.
