Third EASSSR Jeju Virtual Conference Centers on ‘Religion and Peace in East Asia’

The third Annual Conference of the East Asian Society for the Scientific Study of Religion was held in Jeju, South Korea, featuring “Religion and Peace in East Asia: The Roles of Religion in Times of Crisis”.

Starting from July 17, the three-day conference was co-hosted by the Jeju National University Institute of Peace Studies, the East Asian Society for Scientific Study of Religion (EASSSR), and the Korean Association for the Sociology of Religion.

Consisting of 19 sessions delivered by 81 speakers from 19 different countries, the conference covered topics such as religion and peace on Jeju Island, religion and social engagement, modernization, mega-churches, and the urban face of Christianity in the Global South, the indigenization of religions in China, practices of secularity and religion in Asia, and how religions shape the welfare regimes of Asian societies.

The fourth EASSSR conference will be conducted at National Taiwan University in 2022.
