On March 24, 2016, the fifth day in Holy Week, twelve deacons washed the feet of members in the first-ever Maundy service of Beijing Haidian Church. Rev. Fan Guoxing preached the sermon with John 13:1-35.

The deacons brought the basins to the congregation and took off their socks, scrubbing their feet carefully and drying with the towels. Then they put the new white socks prepared previously on the members.

There was a detail that a plastic knot was tied in the middle of socks, which was hard to untie with hands and easily to damage the socks if pulled out with strength. Some deacons hesitated for seconds and bit the knot with teeth. The scene moved a member to tears.

The church gave the twelve basins to the washed members as gifts. They hugged with the deacons who washed their feet.
