The Christian ink wash painting exhibition entitled, "Vision and Context" by Daozi(Christian artist) is being held in Shantou University from Nov. 20 to Dec. 5. During the opening ceremony held on Nov. 20, Daozi gave a speech on the enculturation and contextualization of Chinese Christian art.
Hao Qingsong, the curator of this exhibition, who is a famous Chinese art critic, wrote, "Christian ink wash paintings are based on Christian belief that hopes to wake the theological significance and metaphysical sense of ink wash paintings. The intended conception, brushwork and writing of the ink wash paintings contain metaphysical, transcendental, suffering and soul spirituality itself."
"The extraordinarily of ink wash paintings lies in Christianity in contemporary ink art, including some concept relationships that are hard for people to understand: the relationships between Christianity and art, Christianity and modern art, Christianity and ink wash paintings, Christianity and modern ink wash paintings. Only when we delve deep into these relationships can we see the modern value and significance of Christian ink wash paintings and their production, " he said.
He also shared, "Chinese contemporary Christian art focuses on reflecting China's real situation in the value of Christianity and is not only an image interpretation of doctrine or theology or depiction and production of icons. The Christian spirit reveals the existence of the ultimate One (God), but also the incarnation. Christ's love is universal regardless ofwhether in Asia or in the West. The real life and art situation amidst contextualization needs to be lightened by the Christian spirit with feelings of love and salvation."
A short seminar was also held after the opening ceremony. Professor Lu Longguang, the former Dean of the Divinity School of Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also visited to give his congratulations on the opening of the exhibition.
