Memorial Service

In the afternoon of Dec.13, the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre victims, Nanjing CCC&TSPM held the Peace & Praying Worship in the Holy Word Church.

During the worship, the twelve pastors prayed for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the justice and fairness of China, the survivors of Nanjing Massacre, people who are in war and the unity of churches in turns.

Rev. Zhao Zhien, the professor of Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, recalled what the Japanese army suppressed Chinese in Nanjing at the age of 86. Looking back to the past when Japanese troops lasted a campaign of slaughter for over a month in Nanjing, Zhao said that it was just like happened yesterday. He prays that God can stretch out His arms to maintain justice and the peace on earth.

When Japanese invaded Huzhou City(in Zhejiang), they commanded Chinese to salute to the Japanese national flag. Besides, they seized the food of Chinese people. Once Zhao's father refused to tell anything about the New Fourth Army, which was a unit of the National Revolutionary Army of the Republic of China established in 1937, the troop threw him into the water, while fortunately his father survived because he was able to swim.

Zhao graduated from high school at the age of 20 for he quitted school to do business to make a living when he was 12 years old. Another reason was that Zhao's father didn't want him to study in a Japanese school or learn Japanese.

After his story, Rev. Li Lancheng led the pastoral staff and congregation to pray, "The living God who makes us the son of peace, please spread your love in hatred, your forgiveness in hurt, confidence in doubt, hope in despair, light in darkness and joy in sadness."Besides, Rev. Zhang Fenglian mentioned the foreign missionaries who helped Chinese refugees in Nanjing Massacre like Miner Searle Bates, James H. McCallum and John Magee. She hoped that Christian could follow Christ and live not only for themselves but also help those who need help like the missionaries.
