Cybersecurity Association Set Up In China

In Beijing on Friday, a national industry association for protecting cybersecurity was set up in China. The said association was lead by figure in China's internet censorship effort.

The newly founded association was named Cyber Security Association of China consists of companies that are related in the said industry like Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent, China Mobile and China Unicom.

It also includes research and  top universities in the field, including the PEking University, National University of Defence Technology and some other institutes under Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The famous father of the Great Firewall was known for helping develop internet to block apps was elected as the head of association on Friday for the new association's' inaugural meeting by more than 200 founding members. Thus, the Great Fire Wall architect Fang Binxing quits at Beijing University as president.

"The aim of the non-profit association was to serve as a bridge between the government and the public to organise and mobilise forces in all aspects of society to participate in building China's cybersecurity," Xinhua State agency reported.

The first of its kind, the association will play a major guiding role in cybersecurity governance, will help promote self-discipline in the related industry and pushing for the establishment of industry standards.
