The latest feat of engineering in China will make you feel dizzy.

The world's highest bridge officially opened for public transportation Thursday in China. The Beipanjiang bridge is 1,854 ft (565 meters0 tall and is reported to be constructed bove the Beipan River gorge in southwestern China.

Spanning an impressive distance of 2,363 ft (720 meters), the massive bridge was constructed to connect the remote provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou, cutting the commute time between Xuanwei city and Shuicheng county down from four hours to just one, Seeker reports.

According to Rt," construction of the 1,341-meter-long suspension bridge began in 2013 and ran to a final cost of approximately 1 billion Yuan ($144 million). State-run Chinese media organization CCTV reports that strong winds in the valley posed a problem for engineers in designing and building the massive structure."

"Where to place the bridge piers was a problem," deputy chief engineer Liu Bo said. "The gorge here is over 500 meters deep, so how are we going to design the structure of the bridge to deal with the strong wind field problem?"

China is home to second as well as the third highest bridgest, the Sidu River Bridge and Puli Bridge, as well as other modern wonders like the Three Gorges Dam and the nation's growing high speed rail network.
