One research in the US has cited the trends of divorce in the US and cites a difference between divorce possibilities for the younger and older generation.
According to the study of Pew Research, divorce for younger American couples is very low while those over 50 years old and up are increasing in number.
In the report, the research group said, "At a time when divorce is becoming less for younger adults, so-called 'gray divorce' is on the rise."
The rate of divorce in adults above 50 have doubled in number since 1990 where five in 1000 married persons over 50 undetake divorce. In 2015, this number has reached to 10 in 1000 married persons. For those over 65 years old, the rate of divorce tripled within 20 years. On the other hand, those aged 25-39 divorce less with a dropped rate by 21%.
The report suggested that the reason why older Americans tend divorce more is because of the ageing of the Baby Boomer generation.
Baby Boomers underwent unprecedented divorce levels as young adults. Many subsequently remarried with a majority of them divorcing in the end.
Those that have been married longer are less likely to divorce: with those married for 40 or more years, only 4 in 1000 divorced. For those married for less, 21 of them have divorced. Some of the reasons for divorce is dissatisfaction, independence and new opportunities for love and growth.
In February, Pew reported that 'love' is still the major reason why Americans get married. The following reason to this is for 'lifelong commitment.'
Pew also reported that the percentage of Americans married is now at its lowest since at least 1920.
