When you think South Korean singer Psy and his "Gangnam Style" is still the most-watched video in Youtube, think again. Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" overtaken the said mega hit video just recently.
It can be recalled that the South Korean song "Gangnam Style" has been Youtube's most-played clip since 2012. It became so famous that it has broken the Youtube's play counter exceeding the highest possible views which is 2,147,483,647 and forcing the company's site to rewrite its code.
However, as of July 11, according to a BBC report, the pop song has been overtaken by the heart-warming ballad "See You Again." It has been streamed over 2,895,373,709 times.
"I joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views," wrote Charlie Puth on his official Twitter account. "Just heard about See You Again... Wow."
The song was famous as it was written for the action movie "The Fast and the Furious 7," which was played on the closing credits. It was a tribute to the movie actor Paul Walker, who died in a car accident before the film was even completed.
According to BBC, with its sentimental lyrics, the song has become one of the most frequently used pop songs during funerals in United Kingdom. It was also noted as the best-selling song worldwide in year 2015, and received best song nominations in both Oscars and Grammys.
According to analysis of Midia Research, a Youtube stram generates $0.001. Therefore, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's song has earned $2.9m from Youtube.
