On July 21, 2017 more than 160 pastoral staff from Jiangxi visited Gospel Church of Jingdezhen, which is still being built, and a thanksgiving service calling for donations for the construction was held.
Covering an area of 1,200 square meters (0.297 acres), the new church can hold over 1,000 people with a construction area of 2,700 square meters (0.667 acres). The construction, including the annex, is estimated to cost over 8 million yuan. A local teacher mentioned that the civil engineering project and the exterior wall decoration have been completed. The interior fittings are underway but there is a large funding gap. The church called for congregational prayer and donations.
Built in the 1890s, the old church in the city has become dilapidated. "It drizzles inside the church when it rains cats and dogs." The teacher said that the congregation expects to move into a new church as soon as possible since the shabby old church is small in size.
Around 3,000 Christians gather in the church. The new church is scheduled to be dedicated this Christmas.
The city in northeastern Jiangxi Province, has 40,000 to 50,000 believers, over 10,000 of whom are urban residents.
