Malaysia To Hold First ASEAN-China Film Festival in December

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), the ASEAN-China Film Festival has been recently announced to establish a long term cooperation and exchange platform for the film industry among the ASEAN countries, in line with China's Belt and Road initiative.

The inaugural ASEAN-China Film Festival will be held in Malaysia next month from December 1 to 5. The awards ceremony will be held on December 4 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) in Malaysia.

According to a report, there will be a total of 11 films to compete that are from China and another 10 films from ASEAN countries.

These films will compete for five main awards which are, Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and the Special Jury Award.

Sun Jianhua, the deputy director of Education, Cultural and Tourism Division of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), said that heavyweight directors and actors will be making their way to Malaysia to attend the event.

The festival is said to be screening a total of 31 films - 23 films from 10 ASEAN countries and 8 films from China.

Moviegoers are said to be able to attend the screenings free at GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion and GSC My Town.

The Chinese films to be screened at the film festival include: Wu Jing's Wolf Warriors II, Andy Lau's Saving Mr. Wu, Jackie Chan's Kung Fu Yoga, Tang Wei's Beijing Meets Seattle II: Book Of Love, Huang Xiaoming's Xuanzang, and Alan Mak's Extraordinary Mission.

The film festival will also be reportedly held at Xiamen, Fujian Province in China.
