British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking goes to Weibo this week and praised the lead vocalist of China's most popular boyband after he asked about life beyond Earth.

On Friday, TFBOYS lead singer Wang Junkai released a video of himself in Weibo asking Hawking on how humanity should prepare for a possible interstellar migration in the future.

Earlier this month, Hawking made a rare video appearance for a science summit organized by Tencent Holdings and pleaded to investors to support his idea to travelling to the nearest star outside the solar system to locate an inhabitable planet as the Earth is at risk to becoming a "ball of fire" in 600 years from now once energy consumption increases drastically.

In his video, the physicist said that Wang asked "an excellent question", which provided him an insight as to how Chinese millennials think about the future and the topics related to it.

Wang and the rest of the TFBOYS each have more than 30 million followers in their microblogs while Hawking has 4.3 million followers since he opened the account last year.

Weibo is currently China's largest social media platform and has 200 million active users.
