Renowned cosmologist Stephen Hawking has garnered three million fans on Chinese social media, Weibo.

"How do we know if we are living in our dreams or reality - well, we just don't and perhaps can't!" wrote Hawking in a post on Weibo.

Hawking's post was made in response to a follower's question raised according to Chinese philosopher Master Zhuang.

"Zhuangzi dreamt of being a butterfly - perhaps because he was a man who loved freedom," Hawking wrote. "I might dream of the universe and then wonder if the universe dreamt of me.

"We must keep striving for an understanding of the fundamental questions of existence. And then perhaps we will know whether the butterfly - and the universe - are real or just in our dreams."

The renowned cosmologist express gratefulness for all his friends on Weibo and all the comments and questions they have thrown to him.

It was during the early week of April when Hawking opened his official account in Weibo to share China his plan to send thousands of tiny spaceships to the stars. He then accumulated more than a million friends and followers within his first hour on the social media. Now, his fan-base had grown to 3.4 million.
