China YMCA, YWCA Train New Secretaries in Shanghai

The 2024 China YMCA & YWCA New Secretaries Training Course was held in Shanghai from November 23 to 26, bringing together 28 newly appointed secretaries nationwide.

Organized by the National Council of YMCAs & YWCAs of China, this national training program seeks to equip new secretaries from YMCAs and YWCAs in various cities with a stronger sense of mission, along with enhanced professional knowledge and skills, said the host.

Remarking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Gui Xiaoxin, general secretary of the National Council of YWCAs of China, highlighted the importance of leveraging international resources as an effective way to support national strategies and foster friendly people-to-people exchanges. She urged the participants to focus on advancing the organization’s institutionalization, service improvement, and international project-based development in the future.

The hosting council invited speakers, including Dr. Wu Jianrong, vice supervisor of CCC&TSPM; Dr. Tu Yichao of Fudan University; Ms. She Hongyu, deputy secretary general of the Amity Foundation; and Rev. Geng Weizhong, vice president of CCC. They delivered lectures on distinct topics, including the historical development of the China YMCA & YWCA, innovations in multi-level governance, revitalizing community service, the internationalization of Chinese non-governmental organizations, and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement for Protestant churches in China.

The training provided participants with insights into the operating environment of community organizations within Chinese society, as well as the opportunities and challenges they encounter. Additionally, they gained practical methods for strengthening organizational development and broadening their international perspectives.

Additionally, participants discussed "Y in My Heart" (YMCA & YWCA in My Heart )in groups at the session. 

President Chen Xin and President Jiang Xili of the National Council of YMCAs & YWCAs of China presented completion certificates to the trainees and extended their congratulations.

The trainees also visited the Longhua Martyrs Memorial and conducted field trips to the West Bund Museum,  AI WINDOW at the West Bund International AI Tower, and the game development company Hypergryph.
