Beichen Church in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, initiated music theory training on Tuesday.

The first session of the Beichen Church’s “150 Fellowship” started on April 16, with over 100 congregants attending the inaugural ceremony in the multifunctional hall.

Rev. Jing Jiuwei, the senior pastor of the church, noted that the church has been planning and preparing for music theory and instrument studies since 2022, and now this initiative has finally occurred. He stressed that as the importance of music in worship has grown, limiting the purpose of instruments as accompaniment is insufficient; rather, they are a way of worshipping God.

The “150 Fellowship” derives its name from Psalm 150, which encourages praising the Lord with various musical instruments. Its courses cover music theory, piano, guitar, Guzheng, and pipa (two traditional Chinese plucking musical instruments). The instructors encompass church staff, national Class-II players, and renowned guzheng (a traditional Chinese plucked zither) educators in Kunming.
