On June 29-30, the 11th Jiangsu Christianity Conference was held in Nanjing, where a new leadership team was elected.
Kan Renping was elected as the chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee, He Jiemiao as the president of the Jiangsu Christian Council, and Zhang Keyun as the chief supervisor of the Supervisory Board of the Jiangsu CC&TSPM, reported the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission of Jiangsu Province.
Hu Guangjie, a member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and director of the United Front Work Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CCP, gave a speech at the opening ceremony. He suggested the new leadership team "adhere to the sinicization policy and the three-self course of self-preaching, self-governing, and self-supporting; integrate excellent Chinese traditional culture to sinicize Christianity; promote the inheritance of faith; and enhance the churches’ adaptation to socialist society."
He continued, "We must conduct strict church governance and legal education, establish and improve rules and regulations, and prevent and resolve risks and hidden dangers. We also need to strengthen the construction of Christian groups, play a good role as a bridge; unite and lead the clergy and believers of the province. Thirdly, we should set an example by advancing Chinese-style modernization and writing a new chapter on building a new Jiangsu with a strong economy, well-off people, a beautiful environment, and high public civility."
The meeting reviewed and approved the work report of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial CC&TSPM, the newly revised constitution of Jiangsu TSPM, the constitution of the Jiangsu Christian Council, and the "Proposal on Promoting Strict Governance of the Church in Jiangsu."
More than 200 representatives of clergy and believers from across the province attended the meeting.
