The Christian and Catholic communities in Weifang City, Shandong Province, jointly hosted a symposium on the sinicization of classical doctrines under the theme of "Benevolence and Reverence."
Weifang CC&TSPM and the municipal Catholic Patriotic Association and Bishops' Conference of Catholic Church conducted the symposium at Qingzhi Church on September 12, said Shandong TSPM.
Ten Christian and Catholic clergy members shared their insights from diverse perspectives, including the practice of sinicizing liturgy, a comparison between Confucian and biblical views of reverence, the historical development of the theology of reverence, and the social significance of theology of reverence. Additionally, 28 authors contributed to the discussion through submitted articles. A collection of papers on the symposium was published.
Rev. Dong Meiqin, director of Shandong TSPM, emphasized the importance of maintaining a systematic approach to establish sound hermeneutics and methodology, promoting the innovative integration of religious doctrines and Chinese culture through a step-by-step approach.
The seminar was attended by 59 people, including leaders of the Christian and Catholic communities, clergy members, and authors.
