On May 10, Qiaocheng Church in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, presented a musical centered on the Book of Ruth.
According to Shenzhen CC&TSPM, the musical was directed by renowned composer Shi Song, with the theme "Boundless Love, Everlasting Filial Piety — A Covenant of Filial Devotion in Qiaocheng." It took over two months of rehearsals, involving more than 100 pastoral staff and volunteers from the church. Through an innovative integration of music, dance, and drama, the musical creatively blended Chinese values of filial piety with biblical ethics.
The performance drew hundreds of pastoral staff and believers across the province.
Rev. Cai Bosheng, president of Guangdong CC and chairperson of Shenzhen TSPM, stated that as the first musical on the sinicization of Christianity based on the Book of Ruth, the production holds significant exemplary value. Its debut also marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the 75th anniversary of CCC&TSPM.
Rev. Chen Yilu, former executive vice president of Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, remarked that for a young church to perform an ancient biblical story, bringing enduring spiritual values to the context of modern civilization and advancing the localization of Christianity in China, is of profound significance.
