Since September 4, some believers has, in succession, reported to the Nanjing Mochou Lu Church that strangers distribute illegal material outside the church, which is later identified as the books spread by "Eastern Lightning" cult.

During its 80th founding anniversary from September 9 to 11, the church staff found that the suspects attempted to draw close to believers and deceive them.

Upon seeing this, the co-workers stopped their behavior, pointing out their evil motives, and eventually drove them away from the church.

The century-old church reminded the congregation to be aware of the cult and report to the church in time.

Mochou Lu Church, built by Charles Leaman of the Presbyterian Church USA, has the longest history among churches in Nanjing, tracing back its history to 1888. Mochou Lu Church, called Jesus Church then, was renamed "Hanzhong Church". Rev. Paul Abbott rebuilt Hanzhong Church in 1936. Hanzhong Church was later renamed "Mochou Lu Church " in 1954. The church now has over 4,000 members, attending nine different services and gatherings during the week. About 3800 people regularly attend Saturday and Sunday services. Baptism is held twice a year, one before Christmas and one before Easter.
